It was a bitterly cold morning where most golfers had difficulty gripping their clubs for the first 3-4 holes. It was 4-5 degrees on the course and the wind made it even colder - wind chill factor!

The Hacker's Challenge has been hotly contested between the 2 popular social clubs for 21 years.

27 players teed off for Miranda GC and 22 from The Hackers on a cool but dry start to a day for golf that turned into a beauty.

The sun was out. The skies were clear. The temperature was warm and all who participated had a great day.

After last year's DRAW the Engadine Hackers  won 6 games to 5 and took home the Trophy for 2017.

All the games were played in good spirit and the Challenge was hotly contested.

23 players teed off on a day for which the forecast was for heavy showers.

We teed off in light rain and really only had to use our umbrellas on 3-4 holes.

The course was wet underfoot and was littered with puddles on the fairways but the greens were dry and lush - perfect putting conditions. We played tee up through the green and the bunkers were out of play as they were mainly full of water.

There was light drizzle  on the way down to the course that barely needed the wipers on.

23 players teed off in reasonable conditions for golf but the weather improved to a warm sunny day by the time that we reached the halfway point.

The Guzzlers Cup was won by Steve Carr with 38 Stableford points.

The Novelty Event was a Team Aggregate where the best two Stableford scores across the team members for the first 6 holes was added to the best two Stableford scores on the next 6 holes and the best three Stableford scores on the last 6 holes.

What a PERFECT DAY for golf!

We had 35 starters and the fairways of the course were in pristine condition BUT.

We are becoming accustomed to having to rake the bunkers to remove the copious numbers of holes from foot prints each and every time that we enter them.

BUT we were surprised that many of the greens were badly damaged from people who do not repair their divots.

For $45 per person for a round of golf we think that the green keepers need to do a better job of looking after the course.

With the exception of the 12th hole where a temporary green is in play and the course still being a bit muddy underfoot in some of the lower lying areas of the course, the course was in very good condition. The fairways and green were in good condition generally with a bit of damage visible on the very edges of some greens.

The Green Keeping staff and Course management has done a great job in helping the course to recover.

The greens were in very good condition however the fairways were still very damp in parts. There were very few puddles of water around especially on the front nine holes but was damp underfoot. Having said that our shoes were nowhere near as wet as they were over the previous two weeks.

25th March 2017 - Calderwood Golf Course - Individual Stableford - 07:00am

Rain threatened all week but on the morning of the events there was nothing but blue skies. However the course was very wet underfoot and the rain during the previous week had meant that the rough had not been mowed resulting in many lost balls and difficult lies. The course management tried to compensate by declaring "preferred lies through the green" but even "tee-up through the green" would not have helped in a lot of cases.  Many players though that the course should have been closed as even tough motorised carts were not allowed on the course even hand pulled buggies left , in some cases, deep ruts on the fairways.

8 players teed off on a morning that according to the weather forecast was going to be wet and miserable with 50-70 mm of rain.

The course was very wet underfoot and carts were not permitted on the course. All of the dams were full and the area between the 9th green and the 6th green was inundated with water. In placed in was close to 320 mm deep.

As luck would have it we did not get any rain for the first 5 or 6 holes and then we had a few moderate showers that caused us to don out wet weather gear and put up the umbrellas but we did not get too wet. The last 6 or 7 holes were completely rain free.

The Guzzles Cup was won by Rob Gillespie.
