18th February 2017 - Woolooware Golf Course - Individual Stableford - 06:32am

The condition of the golf course has improved over the past two weeks as the course management works with the green-keeping staff to reverse the effects of the salt water that had contaminated the 'grey water' supplied by the local council.

The 5th green was still out of play with a temporary green in use between the normal 2nd and 3rd holes.

It may take a while for the course to get back to its previous high quality but what we saw today was definitely encouraging.

The Guzzlers Cup was won by Daniel Mikkelsen. Daniel was recently hit in the face by a cricket ball and played with 2 black eyes but that obviously helped his golf game. With his blurred vision maybe hitting the ball in the middle worked for him.

29 players teed off on a day that threatened to be a scorcher like the previous day.

Many players admitted that if it had not been overcast at 6am and the temperature tolerable they would not have hit off. Other questioned the sanity of continuing after 9 holes as the day warmed to a very hot and humid 45 degrees on the course,

4 February 2017 - Woolooware Golf Course - Individual Stableford - 6:10am

The course was in very poor condition with more than half the greens in a poor state of disrepair with some fairways defined as GUR in parts.The 5th green was replaced with a temporary green. It may take a long time for the course to get back to its previous high quality.

The Guzzlers Cup was won by Mark Saunders. Mark shot 7 over par for the day which was simply amazing considering the condition of the course.

29 players teed off on a very warm morning that got even hotter. The fairways and greens on the course were in excellent condition. It is evident that the new owners are spending a lot of money and effort in improving the aesthetics of the course as well as its playing surface.

Condolences:

Rob Guidi left the course before the end of his game when he learned that father of his wife, Kathy, had suffered a heart attack and was ill in hospital.Rob left to support Kathy and her family at this worrying time.

The course was in good condition and the greens well manicured although the grass was a little longer than normal resulting in the need to hit the ball harder to get it to the hole.

Chickens & Prawns were on the menu for lunch after golf.and we had 29 starters for the event.

The flies were horrible and the course was a little dry but the greens offset the effects of the heat by being a little longer than usual. The rest of the course was in good condition as we expect but also the bunkers were full of foot holes again as we have grown to expect from The Ridge.

18 players teed off into fog that stayed with us for the first 8 holes as did the cold weather. The greens were in excellent condition and the fairways were quite lush and green although they did have a lot of dead tree branches scattered around them. The recent winds obviously shook them loose.
