5 March 2022 - The Ridge Golf Course - Individual Stableford - 7:10am

The Captain moved Round 1 of the Singles Matchplay Championship to next week due to heavy rain during the preceding week affecting the course and the ability for players who have difficulty walking the course to use the motorised carts.

22 players teed off on a morning with a little drizzle at the start which looked ominous but the weather forecast was that the bulk of the rain would arrive later in the day.

The greens were moist with a thick cover necessitating firmer putts. There were puddles of water in the lower points on the fairways resulting in the Proshop declaring "300mm preferred lie through the green".

Bunkers were declared GUR with free drop outside of the bunkers.

The Guzzlers Cup was won by Sam Lee.

27 February 2022 - Pacific Dunes Golf Course - Ambrose Event - 9:10am

Pacific Dunes Golf Course - 2 ball Ambrose event.

Following rainy day before and in the morning some players decided not to play...we ended up with 35 players on a well maintained golf course, great fairways and greens and believe most players saying this was highlight of the weekend

Warm and steam conditions with occasional drizzle but turned out to be an overcast and good day for golf.

Ambrose teams were re-shuffled to account for the "pull-outs".

Captain missed out on a hole in one on 14th by a few inches....phew....otherwise would have been 35 beers @ $8.00 each !!!!

All attending the weekend away behaved in a good manner whether at the Wests Club or at Shoal Bay Country Club, some staggered home at ungodly hours but still turned up for the 1st tee, so well done to all.

From the Captain....I want to thank all players for making the trip and representing Miranda Golf Club in a professional manner over the weekend, this was our largest weekend away attendance and believe was a great success.

I also want to thank the MGC committee members who assisted in making this happen, not easy to have this go as smooth as it did so well done to all and a great team effort.

We now look forward to the Feb trip in 2023.

Nelson Bay Golf Club - MGC Guzzlers Cup

On a steamy, overcast and drizzly day 38 players hit the fairways..playing holes 19-27 and 1-9.

Drizzly rain was on and off throughout the round but eased up later in the morning into a humid day. All got through the round and avoided the many kangaroos on the fairways.

After presentation the rains came again....on and off but persistent....this did not stop 12 adventurous souls from playing another round in the afternoon...but only to 14th hole....keen or what !!!

Guzzlers cup winner with an impressive 40 points was Brett Coventry.

Keys eventually located after Scott's wife had to drive up from Sydney with the spares. Someone owes Mrs Whyte some flowers !!!!

25 February 2022 - Horizons Golf Course - Yellow Ball Team Event - 9:00am

 

Horizons : Yellow ball team event

39 players all ready to hit the fairways on our first game of 2022 Feb trip to central coast on 3 exceptional courses.

 Horizons proved to be the 1st challenge...long holes, furry green which proved to be a little slow but still in great condition and wide open fairways which all struggled to hit at one point or another !!

 Ideal for long hitters and sharp shooters and probably a challenge for others but still all enjoyed the course under cloudy skies, humid conditions and a warm day overall.

 30 players teed off on a morning with a little drizzle at the start which looked ominous but the weather forecast was that it would clear by 8am which it did.

The greens and fairways were fairly moist indicating that course had a lot of rain during the latter part of the week. Some bunkers still had water in them and some of the bunkers had sand that was hard underfoot.

The Guzzlers Cup was won by Sam Lee.

1. Next week is the February Weekend Away where attendees will play: Horizons, Nelson Bat and Pacific Dunes golf courses over the 3 days with accommodate split between: Nelson Bay Motel, The Poplars and Nelson Towers

Those attending the Friday game at Horizons (9:24am tee-off) should arrive at the course by 9am which would meaning leaving The Shire at 6am (roughly).

12 February 2022 - Woolooware Golf Course - Individual Stableford - 6:17am

31 players teed off on an overcast morning with a forecast of showers later in the day. Although there was only 10 minutes or so of heavy rain there were many times where the rain shirts came out to stop players from getting too wet.

The greens and fairways were in excellent condition. The greens were moist with a lush grass cover making them good on which to putt.

There was no pooled areas on any part of the course nor was there any evidence of the stagnant pools that were present on previous occasions when we played Woolooware.
