15 November 2014 - Kogarah Golf Course - Stableford - 5:30am

At 5.00am when we arrived for golf the morning light was having difficulty poking through the cloud cover and we doubted that our first group could teed off at 5.30am as expected. However by 5.40am it was light enough to see the ball so the first group was off. All groups were in the club house by 10.15am and the presentations were over and we were out of the club house by 10.30am.

The Guzzlers Cup winner was Matt Whibley (44) ahead of Steve Messervy (40) and Steve Buchanan (38) on a count back from Gary Barnes. The Pink Ball was awarded to John Adelerhof (21). The winner of the member's draw, a bottle of wine, was Rob Guidi.

8 November 2014 - The Ridge Golf Course - 2 Ball Best Ball (2BBB) Stableford - 6:00am

A warm cloudless and windless day met us on arrival at the course and the weather did not disappoint. It was a glorious day for golf with only a few flies. The Guzzlers Cup was won By Tim Tillbrook (42) and the Guzzlers Guzzler was won by Jeff Saunders (40).

The 2BBB team winners were Tim Tillbrook and Chris Lee with 47 points ahead of about 5 teams with 45 points. There was no Pink Ball awarded today as it was a team event.

There was no member’s card draw, a bottle of wine. 

Players welcomed a new member, Mark Santer. Mark is a friend of our Handicapper, Graham Clarke.

1 November 2014 - Woolooware Golf Course - Stableford - 5:51am

A very warm temperature of 23 degrees welcomed players as they arrived in the car park of the Woolooware Golf Club at 5:30am. This signalled the start of a game of golf where those present were most appreciative of the early start. 21 player players teed off on a beautiful sunny and warm morning on a course that was in great condition with lush green fairways and well manicured greens. The course has undoubtedly benefit greatly from the recent rain and warmer conditions in recent days/weeks.

The Guzzlers Cup was won by Peter Bull (43) ahead of Joe Taylor (39) and Ben Hagan (36) on a count back from Gary Barnes. The Pink Ball was awarded to Scott Whyte (27) on a count back from John Dunn and Steve Buchanan. The member’s card draw, a bottle of wine, was forgotten and no draw was made.

31 Golfers teed off on warm summers day that had a foggy start which made teeing off on the first hole a bit dangerous for the groups in front. The Guzzlers Cup was won by Grant Lethbridge (44) ahead of Fred El-Daher (42) and John Dunn (41). The Pink Ball was awarded to John Adelerhof (20). Horse Lotto ($100) was won by Danny Yu who also celebrated his birthday.

After a cold, wet and very windy mid week 27 players teed off on a beautiful sunny and warm morning on a course that was in great condition with lush green fairways (5th hole being the exception) and well manicured greens. The course will undoubtedly benefit greatly from the recent rain and forecast warmer conditions in coming days/weeks.

The Guzzlers Cup was won by Jeff Saunders (42) ahead of Tim Tillbrook (40) and Matt Whibley (39) on a count back from Gary Barnes. The Pink Ball was awarded to Steve Vormister (26). The winner of the member’s card draw, a bottle of wine, was Graham Jones.

He assured all present that it was all above board..

The grey to black clouds and cool conditions instilled a sense of foreboding in those players who turned up at 5.30am for the 6.00am start but we were pleasantly surprised and had a most enjoyable game of golf. The conditions best suited Joe Taylor (47) who won the Guzzlers Cup ahead of Tim Tillbrook (41) and Peter Bull (40). The Pink Ball was awarded to Scott Whyte (26). 26 players turned up on a day that threatened to turn very nasty. The greens had been cored but the bulk of the sand had been washed into the holes by the heavy rain over recent days and they weren’t too bad to putt on. The Guzzler Cup was won by Darryn Fuller (42) ahead of Frank Fuller (41) and Ryan Carr (40) in 3^rdplace. The Pink Ball was awarded to Jeff Saunders (27) on a count back from Steve Carr. Players welcomed Grant Pearce, a visitor brought by Jeff Saunders. Horse Lotto ($100) was won by Rodney Dixon whose horse came in 8 minutes ahead of the horse drawn by his regular playing partner, Frank Fuller. 27 players teed on a morning that threatened to rain and did after about 4 holes. Some players found the conditions unpleasant, especially where there was poling and flowing across greens making putting near impossible, and chose to walk off the course but the majority battled on. The Captain chose to play a Modified Stableford competition. Each hole was played as per the normal Stableford scoring method but –

The Pink Ball was awarded to Tim Tillbrook (-14). The winner of the member’s card draw, a bottle of wine, was Ben Everson. Those present congratulated Tim and Gai Pooley on becoming grandparents. Their daughter, Nicole, gave birth to a baby boy, Joshua. Mother, son and partner, Luke, are all doing well recovering for the happy event.

7, 8 & 9 August 2014 - Buso Golf Weekend

Buso Tour Weekend (August 7, 8, 9 & 10) – An Away Trip known as the Buso Tour is held each year in honour of Mark Buso, a popular member of the golf club who passed away in 2007 at the age of 41.

1.    Thursday 7 August 2014 –

3 players teed off at Sawtell golf course while another 4 went to the races. The Coffs Harbour Cup is a feature event in the Coffs Harbour Turf Club racing calendar each year.

2.    Friday 8 August 2014 – 

18 Players teed off at Coffs Harbour Course at 11:00am on Friday 8^th August as part of the away trip. Unfortunately Garry Daniels was delayed by a double fatality car crash on the Pacific Highway just north of Kempsey and could not join the group until after golf.

The winner of the Buso trophy for 2014 was Steve Messervy (37 pts) ahead of  Peter Bull (34 pts) in 2^nd place and in 3^rd place was Ryan Carr (33 pts) on a count back from Graham Clarke. The PINK was awarded to George Soravia (20 pts)

3.    Saturday 9 August 2014 – 

19 players teed off at Bonville which is referred to by some as the Augusta of the Southern Hemisphere. 

1^st Joey Taylor (35pts), 2^nd Graham Clarke (34 pts), 3^rd George Soravia (33 pts) & 4^th Rob Guidi (28 pts). The PINK was awarded to John Rarity (18pts).

4.    Sunday 10 August 2014 – 

10 players teed off on Sunday at Bonville again just to maximise the pain or enjoyment of the experience. These players included: Chris Lee, George Soravia, Barry Hudson; Rob Guidi, Joe Taylor, Ben Everson, Ryan Carr, Fred Jeanes, Frank Fuller and John Rarity. Chris Lee definitely played the course better the second time around.

2 August 2014 - The Ridge

22 players enjoyed the tee-off on a cool, fresh but dry morning with a slight breeze that did not freshen too much. The Guzzlers Cup was won by Ian Cooper with +7 ahead of John Adelerhof (+6) on a count back from Fred El-Daher. Chris Lee (-5) was awarded the Pink Ball. The winner of the member’s card draw, a bottle of wine, was Garry Daniels.

Saturday 26 July 2014 – Woolooware Golf Course – PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIPS – FINAL ROUND - Stableford – 6:47

27 players teed off into light showers with no wind which gradually dissipated during the round and the day opened to full sunshine by the time that we finished the day’s competition. The Guzzler’s Cup was awarded to Danny Yu (36) on a count back from Chris Lee and ahead of Rodney Dixon (35). The Pink Ball was awarded to Denis Daniels (23). Horse Lotto was again won by Gary Barnes for which he collected $100 prize money. The winner of the member’s card draw, a bottle of wine, was Grant Thompson.

The Pairs Champions for 2014 are Garry Daniels & Graham Clarke who defeated George Soravia & Grant Lethbridge on a count back on the last hole. Congratulations to all four players.

Saturday 19 July 2014 – Rosnay Golf Course – PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIPS – ROUND 3 - Stableford – 7:55

27 players teed off on a clear dry but very cold morning. The Guzzlers Cup was won by Steve Buchanan (43) ahead of Garry Daniels (41) and Rob Guidi (39) on a count back from Mat Whibey. The Pink Ball was awarded to Gorge Soravia (26) who had not tasted Pink before in our club. Commiserations to George.

The winner of the member’s card draw, a bottle of wine, was Steve Carr.

John  Dunn is out of hospital and resting comfortably at home. The doctors were unable to find the cause of his mini-stroke despite exhaustive testing designed to do so. John is not permitted to drive for a few weeks and he will not be back to golf until he is cleared to do so by his doctor. We wish him well in his recovery.

JOHN DUNN – Danny Yu visited John on Saturday afternoon and gave him the best wishes of the members of Miranda Golf Club. Danny reports that John is in good spirits with none of the usual ill effects generally associated with a stroke. John is in the Neurology Unit, 3^rd Floor of Campbelltown Hospital. He is expected to be there until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. He will be unable to drive for at least 4 weeks and will probably not be back to golf for up to 2 months. John sends his thanks to all of his friends at Miranda Golf Club. We wish him well in his recovery and hope to see him soon.

The morning was cool but dry and the course was in excellent condition. 33 players enjoyed the condition but Graham Clarke enjoyed it the most winning the Guzzler Cup with 39 points on a count back from Mat Whibley and Rob Guidi (38) in 3^rd position on a count back from Chris Lee. The Pink Ball was awarded to Grant Lethbridge (20). Players welcomed Joel Griffiths as a visitor. The winner of the player’s draw, a bottle of wine, was Rob Gillespie. Those present was saddened to hear that one of our popular golfers, John Dunn, has suffered a stroke on Thursday night and all present wished him well.
